Who can study at LTTC-LI?

Anyone who is 18 years of age or older can take classes at the LTTC-LI.  If you have to take frequent business trips, are preparing to study abroad, wish to improve your language abilities, are interested in studying languages, or simply want to improve your language ability, you are welcome to come to the LTTC-LI.

When do classes meet?

There are four terms a year, beginning in January, April, July, and October.  Each term lasts ten weeks.  The latest information regarding the next term and registration information can be found on the LTTC-LI website.

What types of courses and levels does the LTTC-LI offer?  How big are the classes?

Currently, we offer English and Japanese classes from Monday through Friday.  English, Japanese, French, German, and Spanish classes are also offered on Saturdays.  For the English and Japanese classes, the courses offered include half-day classes that meet three hours a day, five days a week, and part-time classes that meet one hour a day, five days a week, or two hours a day on alternate days.  Saturday classes meet three hours per session.  The actual classes offered each term depend on registration.  All classes have between 11 and 18 students, and classes can accommodate up to 19 or 20 individuals if some students students need to repeat or to be transferred to higher or lower levels.  If fewer than eleven people register for a class, it is merged with another or not opened.

How can I register for classes?

Before you register, you should read and understand the registration procedures.  Once you have made your choice, you can fill out a registration form and pay the registration or tuition fee.  In order for us to provide you with the best educational service, and as the placement tests and registration procedures take time, it is necessary to register no less than one month in advance of the starting date of the term. Please take a look at the General Information page.

Can I register for the most basic level?

Students registering for English classes should have at least the equivalent of a high school English level.  For other languages, you can register for the most basic level.  If you are registering for English classes and you have already taken a recognized proficiency test such as the TOEFL or GEPT, you can submit those scores in lieu of taking the placement test.  Read more about this here.  In Japanese classes, the material is covered quickly, and the Hiragana and Katakana (the phonetic systems) are covered within the first three to five hours.  Prospective students are advised to preview the material before the term begins.

Who is given first priority in registering for classes?

Due to the limited number of classrooms, and the fact that we give first priority to continuing students, new students are admitted on a first come, first serve basis.

If I have studied at the LTTC or LTTC-LI before and wish to continue, how should I proceed?

If you have studied at the LTTC or LTTC-LI recently, you can enroll in the class of your choice without taking the placement test.  However, those who interrupt their studies for more than a year must take the placement test again to determine their level.

What do I have to know before I pay the tuition fees?

Once you have registered, taken the placement test, and received your results, you should make sure that the level of the class and the scheduled time are suitable for you before you pay the tuition.

Does the tuition fee include the cost of the textbooks?  How and where can I buy the textbooks?

The tuition fee does not include the cost of the textbooks.  Students must buy the materials themselves. They can do so in the lobby of the school during the first week of classes.

If I am currently registered and wish to continue studying, how should I proceed?

You can register for the following term and pay tuition fees during the registration period, the dates of which are announced during each term. On your receipt, you will find the course number and term dates.  No further notice will be sent to these pre-registered students.  Please pay attention to the announcements for continuing students.

If I have paid the tuition but I cannot take the course, can I get a refund?

For a 90% refund, you must submit your request 59 to 8 days prior to the first day of a term.  For an 80% refund, you must submit your request 7 to 1 day(s) prior to the first day of a term or on the first day of a term.  For a 70% refund, you must submit your request before the 2nd class (time) of classes begins.  For a 50% refund, you must submit your request within the first 1/3 of the total hours of a term excluding the first 2 days (times) of a term.  Requests for refund received later than the first 1/3 of a term will not be permitted.

For classes opened by special request, no transfer requests are honored, and no refunds are given.

How can I receive the Certificate of Achievement?

If you have received passing grades and have not missed more than 25% of the class hours, you will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.  On the last day of the class, your teacher will issue it to you if you have earned it. If you are absent on the last day of the class, you can come to the front desk with appropriate identification two weeks after the last day of the term to pick it up.  If you do not appear in person to receive your certificate within three months of the last day of the term, there is no guarantee that it will still be available.

Do you send teachers out to other offices, or can we request special classes?

Private institutions and businesses with special needs are welcome to call Ms. Candy Huang at 2362-6385, ext. 278, to discuss their interests and what alternative courses we can develop to meet their needs in order to ensure the best results.
